The Polaris Center provides standards based instruction to students in kindergarten through Grade 12. Each student is assigned a case manager (special education teacher) as well as a social worker who work with the student, family, and district to meet the academic and behavioral needs as outlined in their Individualized Education Plan.
Each classroom is staffed with a classroom teacher and, at minimum, one support staff member. At most, the staff to student ratio per classroom is 4:1. Using age appropriate Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, we create a school environment where students are respected and valued. Restorative practices are utilized to address disruptions to the learning environment and decrease exclusionary discipline practices.
Students at Polaris may receive additional services from a Speech and Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, and Board Certified Behavior Analyst when included as part of their Individualized Education Plan.
Our students all participate in Physical Education on a daily basis to provide them with opportunities for movement as well as natural opportunities to work with their peers. There are opportunities to experiment with multiple forms of media in visual arts and music classes.
