Since 1966, the Capitol Region Education Council (CREC), working with and for its member districts, has developed a wide array of cost-effective and high-quality programs and services to meet the educational needs of children and adults in Greater Hartford.

Bruce E. Douglas Scholarship for Overcoming Adversity

The Bruce E. Douglas Scholarship for Overcoming Adversity is awarded to a deserving CREC region high school senior who is enrolled in a two or four-year college for the upcoming year. The recipient will be eligible for up to $6,000 to be used for university fees, meal plans, summer housing, books, or supplies. Equal payments will be made directly to the attending college for up to four years of active enrollment.

Open Choice Scholarship Opportunities

The CREC Foundation along with Open Choice provide scholarships to students participating in the Hartford Region Open Choice Program and planning to attend either a two-year or four-year college/university. Completed applications must be received by the deadline indicated to be considered, and applications must be accompanied by the required essay.
