Catalyst Next Generation Science Curriculum

In everything we do at the CREC Resource Group (CRG), we believe in connecting, and empowering educators to set all learners up for success. Every student deserves a high-quality education, and every teacher deserves the support and resources to make that a reality. In our science work, we carry out this belief through our Catalyst Next Generation Science Curriculum and Community.

Since 2017, Capitol Region Education Council (CREC) has been working diligently with a consortium of educators from over 90 school districts to build a K-12 curriculum and online learning community aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). These continuous efforts to enhance student achievement in the science classroom have led to the development of equitable supports and resources aimed at reducing barriers and raising student engagement.

Our K-12 Catalyst Curriculum is comprised of grade-level or content-area courses with units that:

• Anchor in engaging phenomena
• Follow an integrated storyline
• Provide opportunities for students to engage with the three-dimensions
• Adhere to the 5E instructional model
• Provide teachers with specific strategies for shifting instructional practice to an NGSS-style
• Contain assessments to help teachers gauge student learning

Catalyst Next Generation Science Community

Each of our K-12 courses are housed in our online professional learning community, Catalyst Community, through our learning management system, Canvas. Each community includes the following:

• Access to the most update-to-date curriculum and assessments.
• Bi-monthly Q&A sessions with content experts to address implementation in various blended learning environments.
• Unit highlight videos that provide additional guidance on how to implement instructional strategies or labs.
• Instructional resources focused on enhancing student engagement and equity in the science classroom.

To support districts that partner with us, we offer a complimentary 1-hour, virtual on-boarding session for both K-5 and 6-12 teachers.
