CREC Discovery Academy has Great Taste
CREC Discovery Academy, Wethersfield, hosted its sixth annual “Taste of Discovery” on Thursday, January 25. Students and their families, along with school staff and members of the Capitol Region Education Council community, celebrated the school’s cultural diversity with food tasting, music, art, entertainment, and student work that highlighted their heritages. The event enabled students and families to spend time together and get to know one another in a casual, fun environment.
“Promoting diversity in the classroom helps students and staff to become respectful of different cultures and the people they interact with every day,” said the school’s event planner Dana McCorkle. “As we celebrate our sixth year of the “Taste of Discovery,” we will continue to learn how to interact in a diverse environment and develop an understanding of different backgrounds.”
Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Coach Clare Neseralla agrees. “This annual event is special and unique because it promotes community and relationship building among our culturally diverse population,” she said. “Discovery Academy is proud to have so many first-generation families.”
CREC Discovery Academy, Wethersfield, is a STEM-themed Pre-K to grade five magnet school. It serves more than 500 students from 36 towns in Greater Hartford.
