Welcome to River Street School, Windsor! River Street School programming is individualized, based on the principles of applied behavior analysis (ABA). Through an ABA approach, River Street School provides comprehensive academic, behavioral, and life skills for students aged 3 - 22, specializing in children who are neurodivergent or on the autism spectrum. River Street School believes that every child deserves an opportunity for success. We provide a wide variety of services, including our transition programming for teens and young adults aged 14 to 22.

About Us

We are proud of our exceptional services that have benefited thousands of students over six decades. River Street School (RSS) has received awards and recognition from numerous organizations, including the Council for Exceptional Children, St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center, the Computer Learning Foundation, the Governor's Coalition on Employment Opportunities for Youth with Disabilities, and the Northeast Communication Enhancement Group.

The programming at RSS is designed to deliver successful learning experiences commensurate with each student's unique needs. A high staff-to-student ratio provides structured and individualized instruction for every student. All staff members receive training and daily oversight from supervisors certified through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB®) and thoroughly trained in behavioral intervention for children with autism.

Our multi-disciplinary clinical staff supports programming through daily collaboration with instructional staff, family consultation, and professional development training for other professionals. Technology, including computers, mobile devices, interactive whiteboards, and alternative/augmentative communication devices, is an ever-evolving part of our effort to provide highly motivating and effective instruction at all levels.

River Street School is committed to using Safety-Care Behavioral Training, a leading crisis prevention training course focused on preventing behavioral challenges, de-escalating early, and managing behaviors safely. Safety-Care is consistent with our goal to maintain a comfortable, safe, and learning environment. It meets or exceeds the accreditation standards outlined by CARF, JCAHO, COA, and other agencies concerned with quality care.
