On Monday, March 17, 2014, students from the CREC Two Rivers Magnet Middle School competed in the 33rd annual Connecticut Colt World Language Poetry Recitation Contest at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, CT. More than 200 students from various Connecticut schools took part in the competition.Several Two Rivers students were recognized, with Honorable Mention awards going to Ferhanna Tamanna of Manchester, Stephanie Reyes of Manchester, Alexandra Gomes-Ferres of South Windsor, and Pedro Ramos of Plainville, and a Bronze Medal being awarded to Adrian Guzman of East Hartford. “This was an exciting experience. I was proud to get the bronze medal award for my recitation,” said Adrian Guzman. “It was challenging, but fun to recite poetry in Spanish as fluently as possible,” added Alexandria Gomes-Ferres.

Presented by the Connecticut Council of Language Teachers, this annual event brings together middle and high students from across the state to recite poetry in a variety of foreign languages. The Connecticut Council of Language Teachers is a non-profit member organization that promotes language proficiency and the knowledge of world cultures.
