“The dance program has enriched my technique and it has engaged my mind. My dance instructors have helped to develop me into a seasoned dancer; their love of dance and dancers make the relationship we have a special one.”

CCY will continue to recruit and accept students until our programs are full!
The Center for Creative (CCY), a program of the Capitol Region Education Council, is a pre-college residential program that takes place each summer on the campus of Wesleyan University, one of the country's most distinguished liberal arts colleges. Talented high school students from across Connecticut, the United States and around the world will gather for four weeks of intensive study in the arts.
CCY is both impactful and packed-full! The program features daily arts classes in a variety of majors: Cartooning, Character and Concept Designs; Music; Musical Theater; Theater and Visual Arts. Additionally, students participate in Elective Intensives; a series of classes that encourage students to explore art forms outside of their major, or deepen the study of their chosen art form. World Class shows, Master classes, RA workshops, field trips, as well as dances, open mic nights and share days throughout the program fill the summer with creative inspiration. With a 40+ year history of excellence, many students and families have found the program to be “life-changing;” providing focus, validation and motivation to future leaders of the artistic community.
“Every artsy person I know should go here!” Maia Ross Trupin ‘13
The program accepts a total of approximately 75-100 students to create a diverse ethnic, economic, and cultural community. Students range in age from 14-18. You must have completed at least one year of high school to be eligible for the program. CCY has a celebrated history of recruiting students from across the U.S. and beyond who come together to explore their art form on a deeper level and to connect to young, creative minds like their own. The culture created by a staff of professional Artists, teachers, Residential Advisors and Administrators is one of nurturing acceptance and progressive encouragement.
In each of the art disciplines, students gain hands-on experience in an advanced, progressive curriculum emphasizing critical thinking, interdisciplinary and multicultural learning, leadership skills, and historical context. Students leave CCY with a better perspective on career and higher education choices.
“My teachers and TAs pushed me and were honest. I need that. Being pushed makes me want to push myself and my art even more.” Karrigan Pothier ‘14
Nothing is “sugar-coated” here – expectations are high for students both in the classroom and in the residence – but the staff is dedicated to ensuring students feel supported and succeed in an environment that values individuality.
“This place is home.” Danique Ashley Gordon ‘13
